Waverley and Sunshine/Werribee have remained undefeated at Mill Park to triumph as respective Girls Cup and Boys Cup U14 state champions.
The Girls Cup grand final on Sunday afternoon featured an anticipated match-up between Waverley and Casey.
Both teams headed into the decider with momentum following their string of victories earlier in the day.
In an all-round team effort, it was the Waverley girls’ proving why they were the leading force all weekend, the team’s strong batting and stellar pitching came to the forefront – ultimately prevailing with a 10 – 0 victory.
Waverley’s Rachel Miller was named girls’ grand final MVP for her outstanding performance, pitching nine k2s and hitting a grand slam home run.
In the Boys Cup decider, Sunshine/Werribee faced Northern District – the home team of the event.
Heading into the grand final, Sunshine/Werribee finished their fixture games with a 6 – 4 tussle over Sunbury and a dominant 20 – 3 victory over Knox/Frankston.
With a final’s birth up for grabs, the Northern District boys’ defeated Dandenong/Waverley 9 – 3 and Sunbury 16 – 1 to cement a top two position.
In sunny weather conditions, Sunshine/Werribee shot out of the blocks with their aggressive base running and spirited teamwork to conquer 11 – 1, and bring the state title to the west.
The boys’ grand final MVP went to Sunshine/Werribee’s Troy Hotere-Moana who controlled the game from the plate, hitting two from three and one home run.
