Softball Victoria Events and Programs update

COVID-19 Return to Activity

Softball Victoria have recently released a set of guidelines for return to play activity based on the current restrictions outlined by the State Government of Victoria. Please click the link below to find out more, and contact Softball Victoria CEO Nick Frayne at if you have any further questions.

Softball Victoria Return to Play Guidelines

2019/20 State Championships

Due to COVID-19 the 2019/20 Open and U18 State Championships scheduled in March and April were postponed. Unfortunately, with an already busy schedule and still so much unknown regarding return to activity timelines, these events will not be rescheduled. Softball Victoria are currently working on a draft 2020/21 State Championships schedule to be released once more information is available.

2020 Softball Victoria Masters Championships

As previously advised, the 2020 Softball Victoria Masters Championships was postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19. Softball Victoria are working closely with the City of Greater Shepparton to reschedule the event at some stage in 2020 and are hopeful of having a new date confirmed by early June.

2020/21 National Championships

Softball Australia are yet to provide an update on National Championships scheduled for December and January; however once there is more information available there will be an update provided. At this stage Softball Victoria are assuming that all events go ahead as scheduled with no restrictions or limitations.

Head Coaches

Softball Victoria are currently working through the recruitment process for Victorian State Team Head Coaches, with announcements expected to be made in mid-June. Please note that the U23 Women’s Head Coach Donna Scammell has been reappointed, and Aaron Hare has been appointed as Head Coach of the U23 Men’s team.

Assistant/Specialist Coaches

The process for appointing Assistant and Specialist Coaches will be improved for this coming season, with an expression of interest process to be released shortly for all prospective Assistant and Specialist Coaches. This process has been expanded to ensure that ALL Victorian coaches are given the opportunity to be involved in the State program, not just those with a relationship with a Head Coach.

Softball Victoria have appointed a panel to make recommendations on each State team structure and will then collaborate with the Head Coach to finalise each Coach and Official structure. Softball Victoria will be responsible for making the final decision on State team coaching and officials appointments.

Please keep an eye on the Softball Victoria website and social media platforms for the expression of interest process.

State team trials and selection

The State team process has obviously been affected considerably by the COVID-19 pandemic and with the situation ever evolving, there is still so much unknown for the coming months.

Softball Victoria will continue to work with the State Government of Victoria, Vicsport and relevant authorities to ensure that, when community sport is able to, that we are ready to implement a safe and compliant process for returning to softball.
