Day 6 WRAP – National Softball Championships

Check out what has happened on day six at the Open Women, U17 Boys & Girls and U15 Boys and Girls National Championships.

U17 Boys – Game 1: Victoria 8 – SA 1

The U17 boys would like to officially welcome Jaxon and Marcus, to join Liam, in the Bomb Squad.

Fantastic batting from all the boys to set up an early lead and then go on to finish the game off strongly.

Jared had an in-the-park home run and Nathan had a triple to add to the hit count.

U17 Boys – Game 2: Victoria 13 – WA 2

The U17 boys are finishing off the tournament strongly with a convincing win against WA.

There were hits for all including another in the park home run from Jared, a triple from Liam and a double for the birthday boy Jordan.

Solid defence held WA to just two runs.

U17 Boys – SEMI FINAL: Victoria 9  – WA 3

WOW, what a game.

WA scored an early run before the Victorian boys evened up the score.

Victoria scored three more with good team batting and strong defence held out WA, until a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth reduced the margin to just one run.

A two-down rally in the top of the seventh started with a hit from Nathan Tidey, and included a three run bomb from Liam Bonner.

Tynan Purtell again pitched an outstanding game.

Victoria will now play Queensland for a place in the final.

U17 Girls – Victoria 6  – WA 4

Both teams scored a piece early in the first innings with strong hits down the middle.

The next few innings saw many more good hits and base running but neither team could convert with the players still left on base.

The fifth innings saw Vic change pitchers and WA scored three additional runs with aggressive base running after we made some errors.

The girls responded aggressively with the bat scoring five runs that innings to put us two runs ahead.

The sixth innings came and went quick with no runs scored but saw great fielding by both teams.

WA tried to a comeback with two runners on bases ready to score before a big hit to leftfield saw a great catch that ended the game in our favour.

Caitlin and Alana had three safe hits out of four times at the plate.

Katarina – after a bad knock to the eye in Wednesdays game, came back and played a great game with strong fielding.

Under 15 Girls – Game 1: Victoria 5 – WA Gold 2

It was a sensational seven innings game by the Victoria under 15 girls and they started strong with early runs.

Karri Pritchard pitched the whole game with a wonderful work ethic and hit a home run.

The team spirit was high and they supported each other and the win earned the girls a game in the Preliminary final tomorrow.

The girls have had six wins from 11 games.

The girls scored runs early with two in the first innings, one run in the sixth and two in the seventh innings.

We recorded six hits for the game: Kasey Smith with three, Karri’s solo home run, Angelina Kichakov hit to eight and Kiara Rhind-Luke hit toseven.

Karri had an on base average for the game of 1000.
