All the action from the opening day of the Open Men’s and Women’s State Championships at Casey.

In the Men’s Cup, Geelong went undefeated in all of their outings on day one, with a 5-0 victory over Frankston, 6-5 win over Werribee, and finished the day with a tight 8-7 victory over Casey. After Geelong’s Men’s Fastpitch team won its Grand Final last week, its Men’s Open Cup side are in the drivers seat to add another championship to the association’s trophy cabinet.
Meanwhile, Dandenong finished the day with two wins, GEMSA, Frankston and Werribee all got a single win a piece, while Casey was winless on the opening day.
In the Women’s Cup, Waverley concluded day one as the team to beat. Boasting a stellar lineup, they had strong wins over Casey 7-4, Dandenong 10-0, and Frankston/Knox 8-3.
Casey was also impressive with two wins, Dandenong have one victory, while Frankston/Knox went winless, and will seek their first victory tomorrow on day two.
In the Women’s Plate, Northern District conclude day one as the in-form team. Undefeated in their two games, they recorded a 12-8 win over Melbourne, and a 15-3 victory over Geelong.
Melbourne also finished the day with two wins, victorious 11-7 over GEMSA before a strong 13-4 win over Werribee.
GEMSA and Geelong recorded a single victory, while Werribee will be on the hunt for their first win in day two.
With day two on Sunday, there is still plenty for teams to play for in rounds 7-10 followed by the Grand Finals.
