Bucks and Metrans Set for Grand Final Blockbuster

Bucks and Metrans Set for Grand Final Blockbuster

The Bucks meet the Metrans in this Thursday night’s Men’s State League Grand Final, taking place from 8pm at Gilbert Park, Knox.

League Committee Member George Psimaris, said he’s really intrigued by the match-up and both teams’ respective paths to the Grand Final.

“These two teams have always had really strong, close games, and hopefully the grand final is no different,” he said.

“The Bucks have been quite hot in recent weeks, they knocked off the top ranked team (Cougars) to make the final. To do that from finishing in fourth position was a great effort.”

“They beat Cougars in the top of the seventh with two clutch home runs, their hitting has been extremely strong. They’ve had a few younger players standout in pivotal moments that have helped them fill those gaps and shine through across the board.”

“The Metrans are a more experienced team, they are last year’s champions and finished second on the table this year. They defeated the Knights in extremely strong fashion in the semi-final and will have their sights on going back-to-back.”

Both teams contain several Open Men’s state players across their squads, which is testament to the high quality of softball the grand final will bring to the fold.

“For the Metrans, pitcher Mark Rigg has had an amazing year, he’s the number one pitcher in the league and is also the Titans Head Coach. ISF Hall of Famer, Paul Maisey is also set to play a big role on Thursday.”

“Open Men’s leaders Glen Rigg and Joel Southam are two players that have the potential to do the most damage,” he said.

“The Bucks’ Jayden Bamford is in amazing hitting form, hitting two home runs in the semi-final. Adam Talarico and Sam Kassianou are both state team players and played huge parts in last week’s semi-final victory.”

The Grand Final will be broadcast live from 8pm this Thursday 12th December on Softball Victoria’s Facebook page.

Psimaris said it’s a great chance to showcase the league and bring the state’s premier softball talent to the big screen.

“There’s no other men’s league like this in Victoria, it does harness that top talent we have here. The broadcast is a fantastic opportunity to maximise the exposure of men’s softball in the state.”

“We’re also having our awards announced after the final, including the all-star team, best batter, ‘players player’ award and the league MVP, which will be fantastic.”
