Weather Holds Up, As Under 17s Power Through Day 1

Windy, breezy and blustery conditions ripped through Frankston on the opening day of the Under 17 State Championships.

Thankfully for the fired up associations, the weather held up, which allowed for an action packed day of competition.

In the Boys Cup, day 1 of proceedings concluded with the competition remaining well and truly up for grabs, for a number of associations.

Sunshine/KPDSA and Frankston conclude the day as the top two ranked sides, both finishing on three wins.

Albury Wodonga and Werribee/GEMSA have also been ultra competitive, each capturing two wins, concluding the day as the third and fourth ranked sides respectively. Dandenong sit fifth without a victory.

Notable match-ups included, Werribee/GEMSA knocking over Frankston (7-6) to end the day with all the momentum.

Frankston defeated Sunshine/GEMSA (5-4) in tight contest, while, Albury Wodonga’s big hitters impressed in their (3-2) victory over Werribee/GEMSA.

It will all come down to the wire tomorrow with the four sides needing to bring their absolute best to take the glory.

Over in the Girls division, Northern District proved to be the standout association today.

Dominant victories over Knox, (18-0) and Casey (19-7) land them in the box seat to claim the championship tomorrow afternoon.

Hot on their heels is Sunshine/Dandenong who also made a statement in their (15-0) win against GEMSA/KPDSA.

Plenty is on the line tomorrow, as third ranked Knox, and fourth ranked Waverley, push hard to land themselves a top two position.

The top two ranked sides will meet for the Cup final, while third and fourth will do battle for the Plate crown.
