After a decade-long hiatus from the Under 23 Men’s National Championships competition, Victoria returned to the winner’s list with a victory over New South Wales on Thursday.

Day 2 of the Under 23 Nationals at Redlands in Queensland didn’t start well for the Vics after they were defeated comprehensively by Western Australia, 15-4. After two losses on the opening day of competition, Victoria needed to respond with a strong performance on Thursday night, and respond they did with a confidence-boosting 9-2 victory over their northern rivals.

The Vics will meet New South Wales again on Friday morning at 11:30am, with the winner to keep their finals chances alive.

Meanwhile, Victoria’s Under 23 Women’s team is still searching for their first win of their Nationals campaign after going down to South Australia and ACT on Thursday.

The Vics started promisingly against South Australia and lead after the first innings, before SA took control of the contest to win 13-3. The Vics also had some promising moments in their game against ACT, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to stop the girls from the nation’s capital securing a 13-5 victory.

Victoria’s quest for their first win of the Under 23 Women’s Nationals continues this morning (9:00am) against Western Australia, before taking on New South Wales this afternoon at 2:00pm.
