Vics impress at South Australia Labour Day tournament

Congratulations to the Under 13 Softball Victoria Development Program teams who represented Victoria at the 2017 Labour Day Tournament in Adelaide.

This year Softball Victoria has run an off season Under 13 Development program open to all Softball Victoria Junior players. Following four weeks of trials, the leadership officials of Tony Black (Girls program) and Belinda Ainslie (Boys program) sought out additional coaching and officials support, with the specific intention of maximising the opportunities of the players. Thanks to additional volunteers, they were able to therefore involve 48 kids, across four teams.

In a fine achievement, three of the four teams Softball Victoria Development Program teams that travelled to Adelaide made the Grand Final. In the Under 13 Girls competition, the  Sapphires won the premiership, while the Diamonds finished in runner up.

The Softball Victoria Boys Development teams, Lightning and Thunder, finished first and third respectively after the preliminary rounds, with the Lightning coming runners-up in an exciting final.

All players were challenged with long hot days and lots of game time and throughout represented Victoria with pride and passion. Many new friendships were forged, both at the player and officials level, between team mates, teams and across the two squads and all the parents.

There were lessons learnt, skills developed, and some amazing plays and softball to watch.

While there were many standout performances, only one MVP for each team could be awarded and those recipients were:

Diamonds – Zoe Carter

Sapphires – Kiara Rhind Luke

Thunder – Luke Steendam

Lightning – Zach Dunkley

Softball South Australia welcomed our support of their competition and has invited our program back for next year. Players eligible for Under 13s next year are already discussing their plans to return, and we look forward to seeing them and other future talent take up this opportunity.

Congratulations also extends to the Eastern Raiders from Victoria, who were triumphant in the Under 15 competition.
