Victoria’s Women’s and Men’s 2018 Under 19 National Championships campaigns both finished at the Semi Final stage in Blacktown on Saturday.
Victoria’s Women’s team entered their Semi Final clash with South Australia as favourites after finishing a game ahead in third position at the end of the round robin fixtures.
South Australia made the early breakaway with two runs in the first, and unfortunately for the Vics, this turned out to be the decisive moment of the game.
Trailing 3-0, the Vics threatened to make a late charge after Georgia O’Donovan scored at the bottom of the fifth, but South Australia held on to progress to the Preliminary Final with a 3-1 win.
In the Men’s competition, Victoria went down in their final two round robin games on Saturday against Queensland and ACT respectively, but they had still done enough earlier in the tournament to earn a rematch against the ACT in the third versus fourth Semi Final.
Unfortunately for Victoria, they couldn’t reverse the result against a very strong ACT team, going down 10-0 to finish the tournament in fourth place.
The end of the Under 19 tournament brings Victoria’s involvement with National Championships action to a close for this summer. Softball Victoria thanks all players and coaches who represented Victoria at National Championships events over the past few weeks for their efforts in representing their state with pride.
