The Under 23 National Championships are taking place this week in Redland, Queensland.
Check out the recap from day 5 for Victoria’s Men’s teams.
In a super tight contest, the Aussie Under 17s got away to an early lead with a big home run in the first and third.
The Vic boys took the lead in the bottom of the fourth through a Hayden Gillett homer and a Jared Reynolds triple. The Aussie boys came back in the top of the sixth to score four runs and take the lead.
The Vic Boys dug in and fought back with Alex Clayton crossing the plate in the sixth and Sam Beales crossing the plate in the seventh. But yet again it was heartbreak for the Vic Boys leaving three runners on base in the seventh and losing by one run, 7-6.
Among Victoria’s best were Alex Clayton who led the batting with 2 hits. Hayden Gillett cleared the fence with a big homer, and Jared Reynolds notched up 2 RBIs with a triple.
Going into what would be the last game of the tournament, the Boys faced a red hot QLD team. The QLD pitching was dominant and they batted strongly.
The Vic boys left it all out on the diamond but couldn’t get the win as they came up short 7-0. It was an emotional end to the tournament with the Boys disappointed with the result and also having captain Steven Garoni and Sam Beales play their last games in the under 23 division.
Sam Beales and Alex Clayton each got a hit in the game and were among Victoria’s best.
At the conclusion of the Championships, Victoria finish in sixth place on the final standings – view here:
