The Under 23 National Championships are taking place this week in Redland, Queensland.
Check out the recap from day 4 for Victoria’s Men’s team.
In a hard-hitting affair, the ACT team got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first before the Vic Boys got the bats rolling in the second.
Led by captain Steven Garoni, the Vic Boys put on 4 runs through hits from Garoni, Smith, Clayton, M Sheehan and Reynolds. The ACT team came back hard in the 4th and 5th with James Sheehan coming in to shut the ACT batters down in the 5th.
The Vic boys tried gallantly to fight back with two runs in the 6th but it wasn’t enough as they went down 12-7.
The bests for the Victorian’s were Steven Garoni, Matt Sheehan and Jared Reynolds who led the hitting with 2 hits each and all getting off the mark for the tournament. As James Sheehan came in to shut down the big hitting ACT team, allowing only 1 earned run.
In Game 2, The Victorian Men came up against a tough WA outfit in the last game of the day.
WA bought the heat early and raced away to a big lead. The Vic’s came back and scored a run after a brilliant double from Cody Smith and some good team batting saw Cody cross the plate. WA was too strong running away with the game through strong offence to win 13-1.
The best for Victoria was Cody Smith who led the offence with a double and was solid in the field a second with some great plays.
