Each year, talented Victorian Softball athletes have the opportunity to trial for a place in the Victorian State Teams that participate in the Softball Australia Nationals in January each year and for School Sport Victoria State Teams. The next opportunity to be involved in these representative teams will be the Pacific School Games in December as part of an SSV team and January 2018 as part of a Softball Victoria State Team.
Given the number of athletes who may be eligible for both teams it is intended that the trials and selection process will be held jointly and will take place in May this year and all eligible athletes are encouraged to be involved. The Pacific School Games will be held in Adelaide from Saturday 2nd – Sunday 9th December, while the Softball Victoria teams will compete in either the U17 Nationals to be held in Queensland or the U19 Nationals to be held in New South Wales. To be eligible for the Softball Nationals athletes must have taken part in the Victorian State Championships, be a registered member of Softball Victoria and must not have turned 17/19 by 31 December 2017.
In addition to these events the standard SSA Championships will take place in May 2018 making the next twelve months a very busy period.
Participation in both the Softball Victoria State Team and a School Sport Victoria “Team Vic” state team is self-funded. As a guide it may cost between $2,000-$3,000 to participate. Costs may include uniforms, levies, flights, transport, accommodation, meals, tournament and pre-tournament expenses. Costs will vary depending on the location of each of the events.
School Sport Victoria enters a boys and girls 17yrs and under teams in each of the PSG and SSA events. The age cut-off for eligibility is athletes must be 17 years of age or under on 30 June 2017 for the PSG and as of 30 June 2018 for the May 2018 SSA event.
Trials and subsequent training for the Softball Victoria State Team and the SSV PSG team will take place from May through until the events and will be held in conjunction with SSV. At the trials you will be asked to nominate if you are trialling for the SSV PSG squad, the SV State Team, or both.
In deciding to trial for any of these teams we ask that you be mindful of the time, effort and cost associated with being involved to ensure that you do not over-commit and need to withdraw from a team at a later date.
