The Victorian Titans fell agonisingly short in both matches on Day 2 of the 71st Gilley’s Shield being played at Mirrabooka in W.A this week.
Game 3- vs Queensland Heat
An entertaining game to watch with the Titans leading 1-0 after the first innings, with Jess Bahn crossing the plate via a hit by Bree Dawson.
Queensland fought back in the 2nd innings to lead 3-2 at the bottom of the innings.
In the 3rd innings, Jess Bahn got home from a hit to centre field by Sarah Tutchener. It was 3-3 at the bottom of the 3rd innings and the tension was rising for both teams.
The Titans had another run in in the bottom of the 5th innings from a Jackie Di Siervi hit through Queensland’s short stop, scoring Tessa Brown. It was now 5-4 Queensland’s way at the bottom of the 5th innings with both teams playing superb softball.
In the 6th innings, Queensland scored two runs to make it 7-4, but coming into the 7th inning, the Titans came home strong with 2 runs being scored from a double by Bree Dawson.
The final score was 7-6, Queensland Heat’s way, but it was a fantastic game of resilience shown by the Titans and will foster confidence that this young group can beat any team on their given day.
Game 4- vs SA Starz
A high pressure game of softball, where the international tiebreaker came into play at the end of the 7th inning. With a 1-1 draw, the tie breaker had SA batting first and the Starz scored a run through great base running. The Titans had Bree Dawson on second base when Sarah Tutchener bunted to get on and move Bree to third base. Marina Walker bunted and unfortunately went out at first and they got Bree Dawson out at home on a double play.
The Titans lost 2-1 in a tight contest and will be looking at an improved performance on Day 3.
The Titans currently sit in 4th position having won one game from their first four matches, but with some encouraging performances will be looking to solidify a top 4 spot in the coming days.
