Jenny Holliday

Board Position: President

Description of Background / Expertise:

Partner, Non Profit Training. Supports not for profit organisations across the country to better understand their business and improve their impact on their community.

Previous roles include: General Manager, Matrix on Board; Director, Australian Sports Commission; CEO, People and Parks Foundation; Executive Director, Victorian Olympic Council; Manager, Ernst & Young; Head of Girls Sport, Caulfield Grammar School

Involvement in the Sport:

Jenny commenced playing softball in primary school. In her own words, Jenny couldn’t pitch a strike so became a catcher and utility while practicing pitching in the backyard for three years. Jenny first played for Victoria in 1979 with her last tournament being in 1996. Jenny played for the Australian Women’s team from 1984 – 1998 including three World Championships and 1996 Olympic Games, and was a three-time International All-star Team selection. Jenny finished her career playing in the Japan League in 1997 & 1998 with Shimane Sanyo.

Ruth Caldwell

Board Position: Director

Date Elected: September 2017

Description of Background / Expertise:

Ruth brings governance and stakeholder management expertise to the board, through her role in advising City of Melbourne Councillors in portfolios as diverse as Finance and Governance to Environmental Sustainability. Her current role as Program Controller for the Queen Victoria Market Precinct Renewal Program brings additional financial, procurement and project management experience.

She has a Bachelor Degree in Arts, double majoring in Political Studies and Japanese and a Certificate in Governance Practice. Ruth has significant experience working with the Japanese government and business communities both in Japan and in Melbourne.

Involvement in the Sport:

Ruth has been involved with the Northwood Falcons Softball Club since she was old enough to start playing T-ball. She’s a player and coach and more recently a Masters competitor.


Alison Lyons

Board Position: Director

Date Elected: 26th August 2017

Description of Background / Expertise:

Alison is the General Manager Gymnastics Development at Gymnastics Victoria and Director of Pedals Australia – a small business providing cycling experiences through the Yarra Valley.

Alison has five years experience in Sport Governance and over 10 years of working in the Recreation and Fitness sector including managing gymnastics businesses in the Middle East and in Canada. She has a strong focus on strategic planning and evidence based decision.

Involvement in the Sport:

Alison’s interest to support the growth and success of female sport in Victoria has encouraged her to be more involved. Alison has a passion for the advocacy of Women in Sport and the strength of sports who have a history of inclusiveness to lead the way in female participation. Furthermore, Alison is interested in supporting the role Softball plays in encouraging many Victorians to be involved in sport from participation to high performance.


Roger Maddern

Bron Madigan

Description of Background / Expertise:

Involvement in the Sport:

Bron started playing Softball at 13, and played as a catcher, short stop & left field.

Bron represented Sale at numerous State Championships, and started coaching softball at 16 with school, club and Sale teams. Bron has also completed Level 1 and Level 2 coaching courses.

Bron also played for Deakin University at multiple Australian University Games, and continued to play as an adult socially with Melbourne Softball Association slow pitch competition.

Tanya Reale

Date Elected: January 2017

Description of Background / Expertise: Tanya has been involved with softball for seven years. Tanya was a committee member for her local team and was the WSA Secretary for one season. Tanya has played at club level for the City Raiders softball club.

Involvement in the Sport: Tanya is an on ground softball mum with involvements in the grassroots level up of club and association to high performance with her son who recently represented Australia Gold with the Junior Aussie Steelers.

Tanya feels her involvement is at community level where she gets to see the parents and junior players’ perspective.
