Softball Victoria (SV) is thrilled to partner with Proud 2 Play to continue pursuing its vision of a world where all LGBTI+ people can lead healthy and active lifestyles.
Proud 2 Play focuses on increasing LGBTI+ engagement in sport, exercise and active recreation, and work with all levels of the sporting community to provide structured opportunities and pathways for sports to do so.
Proud 2 Play’s Partnerships Manager, Luke Major, said he’s delighted to partner with SV to promote healthy physical activity amongst all SV members.
“Proud 2 Play is incredibly excited to be working with Softball Victoria to create a future where LGBTI+ people can participate in sport as their true selves.” Major said.
“We now have great relationships with a very broad spectrum of sports, meaning we hope that LGBTI+ people really feel they have a choice when it comes to sports participation.”
“It is encouraging to know that Softball Victoria are committed to a more diverse and inclusive Australian sporting community.” He said.
SV will join eight of Victoria’s leading sporting organisations on the Rainbow Sports Alliance – A collective of sporting bodies committed to enhancing LGBTI+ inclusion across Victoria.
SV is already developing a Pride Round for the Peta Edebone Cup, Victoria’s elite women’s softball competition, and is supporting the delivery of Pride Cup events at Melbourne University Softball Club and Casey Softball Association.
Softball Victoria Development Manager, Scot Nicholson, said the partnership is an important step forward for SV to increase LGBTI+ engagement.
“Establishing this partnership with Proud 2 Play aligns with Softball Victoria’s vision in the 2018-2022 Strategic Plan, to have more people positively connecting with softball, in more places, more often.” Nicholson said.
“Softball Victoria is always striving to create inclusive and welcoming environments for all participants, and ensures all Associations and Clubs are resourced appropriately to do this at grassroots level.”
“This will lead to new policies and inclusion programs being launched to ensure that softball is the preferred and most inclusive sport offering for LGBTI+ people in Victoria.”
