Victoria’s return to the Men’s Under 23 National Championships fold came to its conclusion on Friday, while our Under 23 Women’s team made a number of encouraging strides in the final appearances of their campaign.
The Victorian Men’s team began the third day of the competition with their second win in succession against New South Wales, with seven runs in the third innings setting up the 8-4 victory. The Vics’ winning run came to an end at the hands of Queensland (5-1) in the afternoon game, but fortunately they had done enough with two wins to earn a match up with Western Australia on Friday night.
A Preliminary Final spot on Saturday morning awaited the winner of the contest, but unfortunately for the Vics, it wasn’t to be their night. The boys from the West proved to be far too strong in their comprehensive 15-0 win, and in the process brought Victoria’s 2018 Under 23 Men’s Nationals campaign to an end.

The Victorian Under 23 Women’s team finished Friday still searching for their first win, but showed a number of promising signs in their two games. The Vics went down narrowly in a tight tussle with Western Australia 8-5, before a slow start in the first innings against New South Wales in the afternoon cost them a victory (10-2) in what was otherwise an extremely competitive showing.
The Vics had one final opportunity to finish off their tournament on a good note against ACT on Saturday morning, but went down 8-1.
