High Performance Coaching



Softball Australia are responsible for the overall framework for coach education and development.

Utilising the FTEM structure Performance Coaching commences at Level 4. It is at this level that coaches are expected to responsible for Regional, State or National level teams. Level 5 in the coaching framework steps up to High Performance Coaching whereby coaches are looking to move on to becoming recognised as an elite coach within the systems and be pushing to be involved in the development of National level athletes and teams. At this level coaches would be expected to be looking to undertake some tertiary level study in coaching and high performance sport.

Suitably qualified coaches who are interested in taking this next step should make contact with the Athlete and Coach Performance Manager at Softball Victoria to register their interest so that they can be kept informed of up-coming course opportunities.

Coaches who achieve these coaching accreditation levels become eligible to join the Softball Australia Coaching Community and to nominate themselves for positions such as State Team Head Coach, Head or Assistant Coach at the International Friendship Series, and for National Teams at both the U19 and Open levels.

For coaches to operate successfully they are required to be not only technically qualified and suitably experienced they are also required to be strong in a number of other soft skills. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Communication

  • People Management

  • Project and Time management

  • Problem Solving

In addition to these they will be required to have an up to date working knowledge of:

  • Strength and conditioning

  • Nutrition

  • Sport psychology

  • Athlete wellbeing

  • Sports related technology
