Changes confirmed for State Championships draft process

Changes confirmed for State Championships draft process

Softball Victoria has today announced some key changes to the draft and pick-up players process for the 2018-19 Softball Victoria State Championships.

In addition to changes to the draft process, a new process for combined teams will also be implemented.

The key changes are as follows:

Association team entries & combined teams

2019 Under 15, 17 and 19 Softball Victoria State Championships

  • Combined teams will be permitted upon application to Softball Victoria Events Committee at events@softballvic.org.au no later than Friday 18th January 2019
    – No exceptions will be made for associations wanting to combine after the due date
  • Upon applying for approval to combine, associations must advise:
    – Combined team name
    – Combined team uniform (only one uniform can be used for any one event)
    – Advisement of which association will pay entry fee (one association must pay the full amount)
  • Combined teams can only be made up of a maximum of two associations

2019 Open Softball Victoria State Championships

Combined teams will NOT be permitted

Drafting/Pick-up player process

The player drafting/pick up player process trialled in 2017-18 will not be applied again due to the complexity and subjectiveness of the process. It was also outlined that the rules and general spirit of the process were not being adhered to. This decision has been made to reduce the administrative burden placed on staff and volunteers who manage the State Championships.

For all 2018-19 Softball Victoria State Championships the following drafting process will apply:

  • All stand-alone association teams are eligible to select a maximum of two pick-up players from other associations
  • Combined association teams are not eligible to select pick-up players
  • All pick-up players must have the written approval of their home association (the association they are registered with) prior to accepting an offer from another association
  • Associations have the right to refuse the request from any player to join another association as a pick-up player
  • It is the responsibility of each Association to contact and recruit pick-up players and then notify the Softball Victoria Events Committee at events@softballvic.org.au to confirm
  • Players are only eligible to play for the association they are registered with as at 1st December 2018, restricting players entering clearance requests in December and January for the purpose of State Championships selection
